He started in the industry as a dispatcher and assisted in the development and co-patenting of The Operations Monitor, a mechanical truck-tracking device. He established processes and procedures for concrete truck scheduling and even invented a hydraulic truck scheduling machine which improved utilization by 288%. Jim became certified as a concrete technician and worked in QC and sales, where he developed the Concrete bid price calculator and implemented a successful FOB concrete pricing scheme. His company, Advanced Control Systems, introduced the first commercial computerized dispatching system, and later merged with Command Data Inc..
Jim has been a teacher for NRMCA since 1968 and has written and published “The Handbook of Ready-Mixed Concrete Dispatching”. In 2007 the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) awarded Jim the Joseph E. Carpenter award for outstanding lifetime contributions to the Industry. In 2013 Jim was named one of The Concrete Producer’s Industry Influencers.
